Who we are

The doctors behindBrook Preventative Care

Two GMC-registered doctors, more than forty-five years of practice between them, and one shared conviction: that the most useful medicine happens before anything goes wrong.

Dr Daniel Brook

MA MBBS MRCP MRCGP DCH · GMC

After more than twenty years in general practice, one of the biggest changes I've seen is how much more we can know about our health before something actually goes wrong.

Traditionally, medicine has been very good at responding to illness. You develop symptoms, see a doctor, have investigations and receive treatment. But many of the conditions that have the greatest impact on our long-term health, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer and metabolic disease, can be developing quietly for years before symptoms appear. I've become increasingly interested in what we can do during those years.

Advances in blood testing, imaging, genetics, biomarkers and AI are giving us extraordinary new ways to understand risk. For me, the exciting part is working out how to use that information intelligently. More data doesn't automatically mean better healthcare. We need to know which information is meaningful, how different findings fit together and, most importantly, whether knowing something allows us to do anything useful about it.

I studied Medical Sciences at Cambridge and Medicine at Imperial College London and have spent more than two decades in general practice. I am also Founder and Medical Director of The Brook Surgery and UK Medical Director of Function Health.

BPC grew from my belief that healthcare can be much more proactive. By bringing together thoughtful screening, modern diagnostics and clinical experience, we can build a clearer picture of someone's health today and where their risks may lie in the future. That gives us something incredibly valuable: the opportunity to act earlier and help people stay healthier for longer.

Dr Lisa Setchell

MBBS BMedSci MRCGP · GMC

I've been a doctor for over 25 years and, after all that time, some things haven't changed: I still feel privileged to do this job and genuinely care about my patients.

I trained at the University of Nottingham and worked across London hospitals in emergency medicine, elderly medicine, and women's health, as well as training in Australia. I spent over 20 years in the NHS and 12 years at The Brook Surgery, where I learnt the value of a strong doctor–patient relationship alongside the best of modern medicine.

Experience has taught me that medicine is rarely black and white. Understanding the person behind the results, their history, lifestyle, risks and hopes for the future, is key to shaping better health.

Preventative medicine is moving quickly. We can increasingly identify risk and disease earlier. My role is to understand what the science supports, what genuinely changes outcomes, and what is right for the individual in front of me.

As a mother of four, married to a busy obstetrician, I understand how easily our own health slips down the list. Preventative care needs to be practical, understandable, and achievable.

BPC was founded to make high-quality preventative care more accessible: understanding risk earlier, screening intelligently and helping people stay healthier for longer.

For me, good preventative medicine means choosing the right care and the right tests for each person, at the right point in their life. Science and technology give us more possibilities than ever before, but experience, judgement and genuine human care are what make that information meaningful.
